Services

Taxidermy cleaning, restoration & moving services

Care for the mounts you already own. One visit can cover all of it: cleaning and moving go on the same estimate, priced piece by piece.

Habitat dioramas & bases

Habitat bases and scenes built, refreshed or rebuilt, so a mount sits in a setting that looks like where it lived.

Mount installation & hanging

Heavy mounts hung on the right hardware, into studs or masonry, at the right height and angle for the room.

  • Rated hardware for heavy horns like buffalo and eland
  • Layout for multi-mount walls
  • Pedestal and full-body placement

Trophy collection care

Scheduled visits for lodges, offices and big collections, so every piece stays clean without anyone having to remember.

  • Annual or seasonal cleaning
  • Piece-by-piece condition notes
  • Estate and inventory help

One whitetail or a whole trophy room

Most jobs are a few mounts in a family home. Some are a ranch full of African game. Both get the same care and the same per-piece pricing.

How it works

How a taxidermy cleaning or move works

  1. Send photos

Text or submit a photo of each piece and where it hangs. Close-ups of any damage help.

  2. Get a flat quote

You get a price per piece by mount type, with any moving listed separately on the same quote.

  3. Deposit & schedule

A deposit holds your date. We work around your schedule.

  4. Our crew does the work

Keith leads every job, with a crew of two to three experienced hands on larger moves and installs. Cleaning happens on site when it can.

  5. Pay on completion

You check every piece. The balance is due only when the job is done.

For taxidermists

Send us the calls you don't want to take

A client wants a 15-year-old mount cleaned, or their whole trophy room moved across the state. That's our work, not yours. Refer them to us and we'll take good care of your work.

Set up a referral
  • We never mount new work

Anything that needs a taxidermist goes back to the one who referred it.

  • Your name stays on the piece

When a client asks who did the mount, we tell them. Referral clients hear about your shop from us.

  • Delivery from your shop

We can crate, transport and hang finished mounts for your clients who can't haul them home.

  • Repairs handed back cleanly

If we find damage beyond a touch-up, we photograph it and send the client to you with the details.

Questions

Taxidermy cleaning & moving questions

How much does it cost to clean a taxidermy mount?

We charge a flat rate per piece, set by mount type, so a European mount costs less than a full-body elk or a Cape buffalo shoulder mount. Text photos of your mounts to (936) 232-3236 and we'll send a written per-piece quote. Moving and installation are priced on the same quote.

How do you clean a taxidermy mount?

We start with a dry cleaning: soft brushes and low-pressure air lift dust out of the hair or feathers without pulling it. Then we use a cleaner matched to the hide type to cut grease and smoke film, detail the eyes, nose and ears, and restore the natural color of antlers and horns. We never soak a mount or use household cleaners that can loosen hair.

Can smoke- or dust-damaged mounts be restored?

Usually, yes. Years of fireplace smoke, cigarette smoke and kitchen grease leave a yellow or gray film that a professional cleaning removes. Sun-faded hair or cracked skin may also need a touch-up, which we quote piece by piece after seeing photos.

How do you move large or full-body mounts safely?

Keith and a crew of two to three experienced hands handle every large move. Each piece is wrapped and padded, and large or full-body mounts go in a custom crate with foam blocking so nothing touches the antlers, horns, ears or base. They travel strapped in an enclosed trailer and are hung or placed at the new location.

Can a heavy mount like a Cape buffalo hang on drywall?

Not on drywall alone. Heavy mounts need to be anchored into studs, masonry or added blocking with hardware rated for the weight. We check the wall and use the right hardware so the mount hangs level and stays put.

How long have you been doing this?

Keith Murphy has cleaned, restored, moved and installed taxidermy for more than 20 years, from single whitetail mounts to full trophy rooms of African game.

Are you insured?

Yes. Legacy Trophy Care is insured. Ask for a certificate of insurance when you book if your home, ranch, lodge or building manager needs one on file.

Are you a taxidermist?

No. We don't mount new animals. We care for mounts after they leave the taxidermist: cleaning, minor repair, moving and installation. If your piece needs real taxidermy work, we'll point you to a shop and can deliver it there.

Do you handle African and exotic mounts?

Yes, and they are a large share of our work. We clean, move and hang African plains game such as kudu, sable, oryx and Cape buffalo, plus Texas exotics like axis, blackbuck and aoudad. That includes shoulder mounts, full-body and pedestal mounts, and zebra and other rugs. Heavy-horned pieces get hardware rated for the weight.

How often should a mount be cleaned?

Most mounts in a home do well with a professional cleaning every one to three years. Rooms with a fireplace, smokers or open kitchens collect grime faster and benefit from a yearly visit.

Can you fix hair slipping or bald spots?

Hair loss is usually a tanning or insect problem, not a dirt problem, and cleaning won't reverse it. We'll look at it, photograph it and refer you to a taxidermist who can assess the repair.

Do you build dioramas and habitat bases?

Yes. We build custom habitat bases and diorama scenes for mounts, and refresh older ones with new grass, rock, water and groundwork. We also clean, crate and move large dioramas.

What if a large mount won't fit through the door?

We check before the job, not on moving day. The quote form asks for the size of your largest piece, the tightest doorway on the way in and out, and the ceiling height where it will go, and we can measure on site. If something won't fit, we plan for it ahead of time, for example removing a door, using a wider entrance or a window, or crating the piece differently. Large standing bears, full-body African game and big habitat bases are the usual ones to check.

Do you move an entire trophy room?

Yes. We pack, crate and move full collections, including large shoulder and full-body mounts, and hang them in the new space. We can clean them before they go back up.

Do I need to be home?

Someone needs to let us in and sign off at the end. For businesses and lodges, we can work after hours with a contact on site.

Do you work outside Texas?

Yes. We clean, crate, move and install mounts nationwide, including full trophy room relocations from one state to another. Out-of-state work is quoted per trip, with travel and crating listed on the same per-piece quote.

What area do you serve?

We're based in Conroe and serve Montgomery County, The Woodlands, Montgomery, Willis, Magnolia, Spring, Tomball, Kingwood, Huntsville and the greater Houston area. We also take jobs and move collections nationwide, anywhere in the United States, quoted per trip.
